From October 2006 to July of 2007 I traveled in South East Asia. Most of my time was spent in rural provincial towns in Cambodia and Laos, although I did visit Vietnam and northern Thailand as well. In Cambodia I taught a class for two months and then after that I lived in a remote Jari village in the Northeastern corner of Cambodia outside of the provincial town of Ban Lung, along the Sesan river which is a tributary off of the Mekong River. I lived in this village, Katel, for three months. The Jari people are animist. They exist outside the market economy of the kingdom of Cambodia, and subsist as hunter-gatherers with a small amount of land dedicated to farming rice. There I learned to speak Jari and researched the Cambodian witch, The Opp, the disappearing Jari language, the traditional Jari graveyards, which feature wooden carved statues of the deceased spirit animal and funeral rituals, including animal sacrifice.

In the summer of 2008 I was granted access to camp within The Stronghold Unit of the South Dakota Badlands on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, which is owned by the Oglala Sioux and managed by the National Park Service under an agreement with the tribe. There I spent a week visiting the sites of the Ghost Dances of the 1890s, ritual circle dances performed by various tribes in the area including the Sioux and the Lakota. The Massacre at Wounded Knee is said to have been in part because of how threatened the U.S. Government was by the powers of the Ghost Dance.

In November of 2008 and 2009 I spent 3 weeks in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho hunting elk. In the 2009 season I assisted in the gutting, skinning, and butchering of an elk one of my companions shot. I helped as well with dragging the 800-lb animal down a mountain 2,000 feet in elevation above where our base camp was. We were camping at 8,000 feet in elevation. I have since become quite good at preparing elk stew and elk burgers.

Crystallus

From the Shiny Sorceress belly blood crystals have fallen to Earth They are now lost within Earths cold crust. Matter is multiplying itself. The air is becoming saturated. The thickness of minerals that mingle under the Earth are starting to be sucked away. The saturation is becoming thicker and thicker. The process of crystallization has started to take place. It is starting to take over matter. Everything is undergoing crystallization. It is beautiful but it is suffocating. It will trap her within an infinite reflection of herself. Wandering in the landscape she looks for the shard broken off from The Shiny Sorceresses' belly. This film and installation is a preview of part one and two; Discontinuty and Nucleation. More phases of the process to be continued...

Through the circles of alchemical concoctions and symbolism, a leading witch performs her spells and controls the explosions in the slag pot. She is an enchantress like Circe who changed Odysseys' men into pigs with her potions.

Ichor is defined as the fluid that flows like blood from the Gods. This film documents a transformation ritual performed by two girls who successfully conjure the spirits of the Egyptian Goddesses of the sun and the moon. Shot in Los Angeles during the winter solstice underneath a full moon.

The Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet is brought back from her long slumber on the wine of the Nile. She is defeated, shortly after sacrificing several felines and females in her bloody revenant rituals.

Derived from the word 'accumulate', the title highlights the chemical material used to create the images as well as the content within the frame. The developer that suffuses over the Polaroids is, like the elements it depicts, a process of accumulation, of fortification and of disclosure. The gesture parallels the build-up of the physical and mental sediment of life.

Work of an anthropologist who disappeared in Cambodia leaving behind only strange documentation about a ghost witch who would feed on blood she could find while floating around at night as just a head with her guts trailing below. Included in the evidence are drawings, photographs of the opp and of the marks that she leaves behind.
